Here I am awake at 3 AM. I've been awake for a while ruminating over the fact that I might have mastitis. Yesterday, we spent most of the afternoon at the car shop then some of the evening running around town. Not much chance for Nicholas to nurse. Good news is that Will is done nursing. Probably contributes to the way I'm feeling right now. I wouldn't call him "weaned" exactly as Mommy has just said, "No more. All done." He had gotten down to nursing about a total of 10 minutes a day - at bedtime then a couple times during the night. I feel shaky and chilly, but oddly enough no fever.
I've been meaning to write an update on the kids. So here goes.
Sophia has started blending sounds. YEAH! I thought it would never happen. We've been using homemade flash cards. I think she has memorized some of the words, but she is beginning to sounds words out. A couple of weeks ago, she picked out the word "at" on a digital gas-station sign (SAVE AT SHELL). I introduced the long O sound last week using the word "no". Later on, as it was a really warm day, while she was playing outside, I heard her writing with chalk ALL OVER the back yard fence, "n..o..no" - over and over. OK, I know that is horrendous punctuation, but cut me some slack.
She's also started asking the big questions, like when was God born. I should really prepare for the how do babies get in your tummy question. Not that I'm pregnant now, but would like to be in the near future.
Will's big news is that he has stopped nursing, making all those people out there who were worried about a 3 year old nursing, give a big sigh of relief. After Sophia weaned (at 40 months) I think I had a hard time relating to her. I'm determined not to let this happen with Will. Seriously, when he isn't fighting dragons with his cape and black cowboy hat on using any long object as a sword, he is a very sweet boy. Just
alot of energy. Right now he likes to say "of course" to everything. Think he picked it up from his sister. I don't think he really knows what it means though. He can spend hours playing with his Little People "people." His favorite is the horse and rider. Before bed tonight, I was playing Sleeping Beauty with the Kids. Nicholas was the King, I was the Queen (note I had triplets: Aurora, Madeline & John), Sophia was my Royal Helper (and the story instigator) and Will was Sir
Galavant, of course. Our "soldier-man" was running around (as described above) protecting us from dragons, ogres and bad angels. :)
Will is also working on potty-training. Well, sort of. He is convinced that pull-ups are underwear, will go when I take him, but doesn't very often tell me that he has to go. I guess time will tell on that one.
Let's see .... Nicholas is 14 months old now. This is how old Will was when we got pregnant for Nicholas. Seems quite amazing. He is quite the little imitator right now and using the stairs pretty well. I've even been able to put one gate away. Oh - this is funny. He loves mini-marshmallows. We've been using marshmallows as little rewards for Will. Of course, Nicholas wants some also. I got out a bag of cotton balls the other day, he went crazy thinking they were marshmallows! He can say Mama well. (GRIN) He also approximates at ball and Daddy.
Can't think of anything else. I'm going to take some tylenol.
